Paul & Marion’s Americarna Journey
Article: Rob Maetzig
Americarna has a way of capturing hearts, and for English couple Paul and Marion Marsden, it turned a family visit into something much more.
The Marsdens first travelled from the UK to Taranaki to spend time with their son, daughter, and close family who live in Stratford. By pure chance, one of those visits coincided with Americarna – and what an introduction it was! They were instantly drawn in by the energy of the event. So much so, that they began planning their future trips to New Zealand around it. For the past 10 years, Paul and Marion have timed their visits to align with Americarna, always thinking how wonderful it must be to actually take part.
That dream became reality in 2025. Their enthusiasm for the event reached new heights when they made a big decision – to purchase a classic car of their own that they saw for sale during Americarna 2025. The proud new owners of a beautiful 1937 Chevrolet, the couple are now preparing to take part in Americarna 2026, not just as spectators, but as entrants.
Back in the UK, classic American cars are already a huge part of their lives. They own a striking 1949 Chevrolet Panel Van, transformed into a Hot Rod, which they take to shows across the UK and Europe – including Jersey, France, and Ireland. They also have a 1931 Ford Model A, which they enjoy taking to local shows and beach racing events. For the Marsdens, these cars aren’t just vehicles – they are a way of life, connecting them with like-minded enthusiasts, countless memorable experiences, and lasting friendships.
Now, with their Chevy, Paul and Marion are ready to bring their passion to the roads of Taranaki. We can’t wait to see their 1937 Chevrolet shine in Americarna 2026!
