AmeriCARnage Information

Roller derby for most of you those words should conjure up images of tattooed girls on skates, hotpants and ripped fishnet tights.  Even though considered a new sport, competitive roller derby started in the USA around 1930s reaching the height of its popularity in the 1970s, but becoming more a theatrical show than a sport.  In the early 2000s there was a grass roots revival of the sport, with the focus being on female  athleticism and a 'for the skater, by the skater' attitude.  It has quickly spread worldwide, with at least 20 leagues in New Zealand alone.

Taranaki Roller Corps is the original New Plymouth based all female roller derby league.  We are based at the Eastend Roller Skating Rink and have been rolling since 2008 and competing since 2010. Our newly formed Rumble Bees team, with black and gold uniforms to reflect the 'Naki' colours, have had a fantastic 2011 season playing teams from Hamilton to Wellington.

In conjunction with the crew at Americarna, it is with pleasure that Taranaki Roller Corps presents you with AmeriCARnage, the most burn-outs, crashes and pile ups you will ever see indoors.  This will be a day of roller derby to remember, with the Rumble Bees and other teams from around the country, battling it out on their all American wheels.  Come and see the hottest thing to come out of America since Knight Rider's Trans Am!!
