The city will come alive with fabulous cars, activities for the kids, live music, and a carnival market-day atmosphere. This is a FREE, fun day out for the whole family to enjoy together. The Americarnival is proudly brought to you by the New Plymouth District Council.
Americarnival is about family friendly fun, and Puke Ariki Landing will host a variety of activities for kids of all ages including the merry go round and bouncy castle, and what carnival would be complete without flags for the kids. There will be inflatable horizontal bungee, bouncy boxing, paintball shooting, and a super surfer to challenge yourself on. Look out for the stilt walker giving out balloons and get your face painted today too. For those who love a bit of racing, the Race Car Simulators will be in the tent, so you can put your driving skills to the test. When you see the Line Dancers start dancing in the main street, join in the fun, they will teach you the steps. Line Dancing will be at 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm on Devon Street.
Today is also about the cars, you will get a chance to get up close and personal with the modern and the classic machines and their owners between 10:00am – 3:00pm. Hundreds of American vehicles from Vintage 1920’s to the latest models will be parked on display along Devon Street between Gover Street and Robe Street. Also, on display with be some muscle cars available for purchase, located outside the Puke Ariki Library, 4 Guys Autobarn will be joining us, and you too can purchase your own American car to join in the 2019 event.
Soak up the atmosphere in the Huatoki Plaza with live music from the ‘Southern Diplomats’. Browse through our ‘Retro Market’ with stalls operating along Currie Street between Centre City Shopping Centre and Devon Street. Americarna merchandise will be available for purchase at the Huatoki Plaza so grab your piece of Americarna and wear it with pride. There will be a variety of craft stalls in and around the Huatoki Plaza.
There will be American hot dogs, donuts, fruit ice creams and snow cones available for purchase at the Puke Ariki Landing plus good food and refreshments options nearby in the surrounding local bars and cafes.
Many local businesses have enjoyed getting in the spirit of Americarna by dressing up their shop windows in red, white, and blue Americana theme. Today one window display will be judged as having the best Americarna window display. Thank you to our sponsor for this prize - Ekdahl Property Management.
At the conclusion of Americarnival at 3:00pm, head over to Centre City Shopping Centre for a spot of shopping, or enjoy a stroll on our beautiful coastal walkway in the afternoon sun.
Road closures will be in place on Devon Street, from Gover Street, to Robe Street, including all side streets in between.
Disabled car parking is available in Lower Courtenay Car Park (under the Warehouse, access from Courtenay Street) and in the Central Car Park (across the road from TSB Showplace, and accessed from Powderham street.
